Dylan Thomas in the Maritime Quarter Trail

Enjoy a Dylan Thomas-themed trail through part of the Maritime Quarter. This gentle, flat stroll is around 1 kilometre in length, and can take 20 – 25 minutes.

Dylan Thomas was born, and spent the first 20 years of his life, in Swansea. He returned frequently in the subsequent years, and continued to write about his ‘beautiful drab town’ and its people. Dylan’s writing will be your guide as you follow this short trail and discover Swansea Marina through his eyes. You’ll see first-hand some of the history and industrial heritage, and see the lasting effects of the Blitz of Dylan’s ‘marble-town, city of laughter, little Dublin’ (letter to Vernon Watkins).

Route

• Begin outside the Dylan Thomas Centre.

• Walk along East Burrows Road. Turn right just after Swansea Yacht Club and head towards the Pumphouse.

• Cross the footbridge to arrive at Captain Cat.

• Retrace your steps across the footbridge and go past the Pumphouse and Abernethy Quay to arrive at Dylan Thomas Square and its statue.

• Move towards the edge of the square and the Dylan Thomas Theatre, home to Swansea Little Theatre.

• Walk along Gloucester Place towards the Queens Hotel.

• Turn left and around the corner is Swansea Museum.

• Turn into Adelaide Street and walk past the former offices of the Evening Post.

• Turn right onto Somerset Place and you will see the Dylan Thomas Centre, completing your short walk
