A Swansea Bay Beaches Trail

We have so many beaches here in Swansea Bay, Mumbles and Gower, we thought we would create a 7-day Beaches Trail!

That’s right…we’ve chosen a different beach for each day of your week long holiday in Swansea Bay! And, if you can’t stay that long, tick the ones off that you manage to visit and come back again soon to finish them off! We do have a lot more than 7 beaches of course…as you will see from our Beaches Guide…so you may have to make quite a few return trips to visit them all!

So… let’s start with Swansea Bay! A short hop from the heart of the City Centre, this beach is perfect for a stroll along the Prom. With oodles of space and sand, it’s brilliant for water sports like stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, power kiting and volleyball.

Too energetic? Just unroll your towel and enjoy some quality time with your family.

At Blackpill Lido, there’s a safe, children’s pool to splash about in, a children’s play area and plenty of space for a picnic overlooking Mumbles Head – lovely!

Fancy a cappuccino?  Itching for an ice-cream? You’re never far from a fantastic foodie experience along Swansea Bay.  For a brew with a view or a cheeky cocktail (or equally delicious mocktail) and tasty brunch, The Secret Beach Bar and Kitchen is just the place! Your four legged bestie is welcome here too…and they can even enjoy their own doggy ice cream!

With our youngest visitors in mind, summer dog restrictions are in place along certain areas of the Bay (look out for the signs at beach access points).

Moving around the coast, our next stop on the Beaches Trail is Bracelet Bay. It’s amazing to think that this beautiful stretch of wild coastline is so close to the City.  Bracelet Bay proudly boasts a Green Coast Award and offers first-class rockpooling, so bring a bucket and a net for some underwater adventuring!

Feeling a little peckish? Head to The Lighthouse for a delicious bite to eat or an ice cream and enjoy the beautiful views of Bracelet Bay and Mumbles Lighthouse.

But the family pet has to swim at one of our other brilliant beaches during the summer!

Not too far around the coast is our third beach on the trail!

Langland Bay is perfect for catching waves! Or you could try coasteering, rockpooling with the kids, or simply relax with a picnic on the beach.  Langland Bay has a, summery, seasidey feelgood factor that will definitely make you smile.

Treat yourself to some homemade ice-cream served at the nearby café, a must after an afternoon’s adventure exploring this beautiful stretch of golden sands and cliffs. Or if you fancy treating yourself to some local seafood (including cockles, lobster and fresh mussels), head to Langland’s Brasserie and enjoy a spot of al fresco dining overlooking the beach.

Nice to know – a lifeguard patrols the beach from May- September, making it a safe swimming option if you and the little ones fancy a dip in the sea!  Langland also has a prestigious Blue Flag – so top marks for safe family fun!

Langland Bay is a real family friendly favourite, with lots of serious sand castle building, so our doggy pals are asked to visit one of our other beaches during the summer.

Take a gentle stroll along the Gower Coast Path to explore our next beach ….

…introducing Caswell BayThis beautiful stretch of golden sand offers a range of beachy activities; including surfing, rock climbing, coasteering and even abseiling.

Perfect for a family day out with lifeguard patrols in the summer and handy facilities nearby – so if you arrive without your bucket and spade – no worries!  Caswell Bay features all the seaside essentials of golden sand, surfable sea and a friendly and fun-filled atmosphere on a sunny summer’s day!

And it’s an award winner with Blue Flag status!  Easy to get to, with bus stop and car park nearby.  Our furry friends are asked to visit one of our other fantastic beaches during the summer months.

Following the Gower coast, our next beach is Three Cliffs Bay! Perfect for those looking for adventures, Three Cliffs Bay has an away-from-it-all feel and is surrounded by sand dunes, cliffs and salt marsh.

It’s all going on here – rock climbing, abseiling and stand-up paddle boarding; you’re never far from an exhilarating experience!

Forgot your packed lunch? Pop into the Little Valley Bakery for a freshly baked cinammon bun or a sausage roll to take with you!

But hey, now the serious bit – Three Cliffs is beautiful but also has a wild side, it’s always best to check the tide tables before any activity, as there are very strong currents in the Bay.

This is a dog-friendly beach meaning our furry friends are welcome all year.

Next up on our Beaches Trail is Port Eynon Bay! Port Eynon is a bustling Gower Village with buckets of seaside charm, nestled snuggly right up to the bay.  So, great for a family day at the beach – easy to get to, easy to park or get to by bus, and with oodles of essential beach supplies within easy range of your flip-flops.  Fancy stretching your legs? Then catch-up with the Gower Coast Path again or explore the ancient Gower Salthouse along the Bay.

Fancy a spot of lunch? Head to The Ship Inn for a bite to eat and perhaps sample the local Gower ale. Gower Gin is also based in Port Eynon…see where they craft small batch gins based on foraged botanicals found on the Gower Peninsula and enjoy a tasting session in the Gin Garden (please book in advance).

Port Eynon’s a Blue Flag beach with the reassurance of a lifeguard on duty from May to September.  Summer dog restrictions are in place along certain areas of the Bay (look out for the signs at beach access points).

And as we come to the end of this Beaches Trail…some would say we have saved the best until last! With 3 miles of golden sand and a lush green coastline, Rhossili Bay (has quite rightly!) made the top 3 for three years running in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards.  At the most westernmost point of the Gower Peninsula (which was itself, the first in the UK to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Rhossili has more than its fair share of reasons to visit including the iconic Worms Head and some awesome views from the top of Rhossili Downs.

Like surfing? Love Rhossili Bay.  Watersports are definitely on the menu, along with some tasty local dishes at The ViewThe Lookout or the Worm’s Head Hotel, where you can enjoy a bite to eat whilst enjoying the jaw dropping views!

And with three miles of sand to run around (all year with no restrictions) your four-legged bff will love it too!

Please respect the waves – the tide can come in quickly here and there are strong currents, so you need to check the tide tables before you embark on an adventure across the causeway to Worm’s Head or to the tidal island of Burry Holms.  See our Play Safe page for the low down on how to have some splashing fun safely on all our beaches!

This is just a snapshot of the Beaches we’ve selected to feature as part of this Beaches Trail…but we do have many more, including Oxwich Bay, RothersladeHorton and Llangennith to name but a few! Visit our Beaches Pages for more information and don’t forget to tag us in on social media – we’d love to see your Beach Trail Adventures!
