The Market Hall that we see today, was officially opened on 18th May 1961 by Alderman Francis Charles Jones, Chairman of the Estates Committee.

Many of the traders that you see today in the Market have been there since the start. Tuckers Fresh Fish, for example have been a prominent part of Market life with a third generation of the family running the popular fishmongers today.

To mark the 50th Anniversary Year, a fantastic host of activities and special offers will be available through out 2011 to promote the Market's long established heritage and to look forward to the future. Here are some of the highlights coming up:

'We love the Market' editorial feature and photo competition

South Wales Evening Post will be inviting members of the public to submit their old photos of the Market to be judged by an expert panel. Sponsored by the Market Traders Federation. The winner will be presented with a professional canvas of the entry and a duplicate canvas will also be displayed in the Market. Contact Gemma Dawkins, South Wales Evening Post, P O Box 14, Adelaide St, Swansea to submit your entry.
