Horse Riding on Gower Beaches

Swansea and the Gower Peninsula have some fantastic beaches that are suitable for a great ride.

Horse riding is permitted on the following beaches at any time between 30 September until 1 May.  Between 1 May and 30 September horse riding is forbidden from 9.00am – 7.00pm as the beaches are very popular.

Caswell Bay – This is a good beach to ride on as it has flat, hard sand with a ramp to get down to the beach.  There is a steep hill to get down to the car park if you are using a box (also there are usually surfers around so it can be busy on a nice day).

Swansea Beach

Langland Bay and Rotherslade Bay - these beaches join at low tide and are accessed via a very steep hill and ramp.  The beaches have rocky areas.

Beaches to ride on all year round include:

Three Cliffs Bay and Pobbles - spectacular adjoining beaches with a stream that runs down the valley onto the beach at Three Cliffs. Aim for Southgate (SA3 2DH), park on the cliffs at the National Trust car park (fee applies) and ride down.  The sand can be quite soft in patches on this beach so check before cantering.

Oxwich Bay – a beautiful beach with a huge sweep of sand.  Many watersports and sand based sports take place at the car park end of the beach so please take care.

More information

Before you go riding, please read this carefully.

Please check the tide times very carefully before you ride as we have a very large tidal range, so beaches can be covered at high tide.

It is also possible to ride on the Carmarthen Bay and Estuaries. For more information, contact the City and County of Swansea on 01792 635230.
