The basin of the Neath canal is an excellent example of the industrial ingenuity made famous by the novelist Alexander Cordell in his book, Song of the Earth.

The restored section of this canal, north of Resolven, takes you past several locks and the upper Vale of Neath. On reaching the lime kilns 2.5mi / 4km to the north, take time to explore and return to the start along the same route.
